What is a SEO Manager?
An SEO manager still owns the classic stack: technical fixes, content briefs, internal links, programmatic pages, and links. ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini cite pages that already rank, so the work moved toward topical depth and structured data. The people who get hired have shipped a set of pages that ranked (integration pages, comparison pages, category trees) and can debug crawl and speed issues with an engineer in the room.

Frequently asked
About SEO Manager careers
What does an SEO manager do?
An SEO manager owns organic search. The work is technical fixes, content briefs, internal links, and the choice of which pages should rank. Writers and engineers are part of the job, because the manager cannot ship the page alone. AI answer engines cite those same pages.
What is an SEO manager salary in the US?
BLS publishes no SEO manager wage. Growth.Talent's anchor for this title is $90,000 to $175,000 base, from the mid minimum to the senior maximum. The closest BLS OEWS May 2025 figure is marketing specialists, median $78,760, highest 10 percent above $155,480.
What is the difference between an SEO manager and a content manager?
An SEO manager decides which pages should rank and fixes the technical reasons they do not. A content manager owns the publishing calendar and the draft. Healthy teams staff both. One person covering both is a startup compromise, and the technical work is what gets dropped.
Is SEO still a job with AI search?
Yes. ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini cite pages that already earn a place in search. The work moved toward topical depth and structured data. A page that cannot be quoted in one tight paragraph will not be the page an AI answer uses. That is the new editorial bar.
What should an SEO manager job description include?
The description should name the scope: technical, content, links, or all three. It should name the CMS and whether an engineer will actually take the ticket. It should name a traffic or pipeline number. Own SEO, with no site and no writer, is not a manager job.
