The Challenge

Scribd reaches 200M+ monthly visitors across four major products. You'll own the growth engineering strategy and lead 25 engineers to build modern growth systems, experimentation infrastructure, and lifecycle messaging that convert millions into paying subscribers.

Your Mission

First 3 Months
1

Audit current growth tooling, data pipelines, experimentation infrastructure, and attribution systems; document technical debt and modernization opportunities

2

Establish direct management of 5-person growth platform team; define team charter, engineering practices, and hiring plan to reach full strength

3

Build alignment across three growth engineering teams on shared standards, tooling, and experimentation rigor; clarify team boundaries and dependencies

4

Partner with Product, Performance Marketing, and Data Platform leads to define 12-month growth engineering roadmap aligned to subscriber acquisition and retention goals

By 6 Months
1

Ship 2-3 foundational growth platform systems (lifecycle messaging, experimentation, or attribution) that measurably improve conversion or retention metrics

2

Scale growth platform team to full capacity (5 engineers); establish promotion criteria and career development paths across all three teams

3

Reduce time-to-experiment by 40%+ through infrastructure improvements; increase experimentation volume and rigor across growth org

4

Drive adoption of shared engineering standards across teams; establish metrics for code quality, deployment frequency, and incident response

KPIs You'll Own

Subscriber Growth Rate

Month-over-month or cohort-based growth in paying subscribers across all four products.

Experiment Velocity

Number of A/B tests launched per quarter and time-to-decision on each experiment.

Platform System Uptime

Availability of growth systems (lifecycle messaging, attribution, experimentation infra) measured as percentage uptime.

Engineering Retention & Engagement

Retention rate of direct reports and broader team; internal engagement survey scores on clarity, autonomy, and impact.

Technical Debt Ratio

Percentage of sprint capacity allocated to technical debt reduction vs. new feature development.

Is This Role For You?

For You If
  • You've led engineering teams (15+ people) building growth systems, MarTech platforms, or experimentation infrastructure at scale
  • You balance hands-on technical depth with organizational leadership; you code or can code but derive energy from building high-performing teams
  • You thrive in ambiguity; you can audit a messy technical state, set a vision, and move fast to ship improvements
  • You understand growth metrics deeply (CAC, LTV, conversion funnels, cohort retention) and can translate strategy into technical roadmaps
  • You want autonomy to shape growth engineering culture and strategy at a company with massive reach (200M+ users)
Won't Work If
  • You need full remote flexibility; this role requires on-site presence in Chicago
  • You're primarily an IC engineer and prefer coding to people leadership; this is a leadership role with hands-on team involvement but not daily coding
  • You lack experience with experimentation infrastructure, MarTech, or growth systems; this role requires deep technical credibility in those areas
