The Challenge

CNN is transforming rapidly and needs someone to own the operational backbone of their email platform. You'll scale their marketing, transactional, and editorial email programs while ensuring deliverability, data integrity, and compliance across a global news operation.

Your Mission

First 3 Months
1

Audit current ESP platform usage and identify 3-5 quick wins to improve email deliverability and system efficiency

2

Establish data integrity monitoring processes and baseline data quality metrics across all audience segments

3

Map integrations between ESP, data warehouse, and marketing systems; document current state and gaps

4

Create domain and mailbox management playbook covering reputation, authentication (SPF/DKIM/DMARC), and compliance

By 6 Months
1

Reduce email bounce rate by 15-20% and improve spam complaint rates through list hygiene and segmentation improvements

2

Implement automated monitoring dashboard tracking deliverability, data flows, and compliance metrics in real-time

3

Lead 2+ ESP feature rollouts that directly improve marketing team efficiency or audience engagement outcomes

4

Build cross-functional email operations roadmap with product, marketing, and engineering aligned on quarterly priorities

Email Deliverability Rate

Track inbox placement percentage and bounce rates; target 98%+ delivery to inbox.

Data Integrity Score

Monthly audit of data completeness, accuracy, and timeliness across all integrated systems.

Compliance Violations

Zero CAN-SPAM and GDPR violations; monthly audit of list consent and unsubscribe handling.

ESP Platform Utilization

Percentage of available features actively used by marketing teams; track adoption of new capabilities.

Mean Time to Resolution (Incidents)

Average time to resolve email delivery issues, data sync failures, or platform outages.

  • You thrive translating business goals into platform solutions and love process documentation and cross-functional alignment
  • You want to impact a global news organization's growth and have no fear of fast-paced media environments
