The Challenge

Whatnot is North America's largest livestream shopping platform, scaling sellers across hundreds of categories. You'll build the trust and growth systems that protect the funnel from fraud while enabling thousands of new sellers weekly to turn passion into real businesses.

Your Mission

First 3 Months
1

Ship identity verification (IDV) and fraud detection systems that reduce seller friction by 20% while maintaining trust standards

Build and deploy seller onboarding experience improvements across React frontend and backend APIs

3

Establish baseline metrics for seller funnel health and implement A/B testing framework for experimentation

4

Create initial seller enrichment pipeline to route users to appropriate onboarding and incentive paths

By 6 Months
1

Scale fraud detection and automated trust review systems to handle 10x seller application volume without manual review bottlenecks

Design and execute 6+ A/B tests on onboarding, education, and incentive flows with measurable GMV and retention impact

Build reusable data pipelines and growth infrastructure (notifications, lifecycle triggers) for other product pods

4

Reduce seller churn in first 30 days by 15% through targeted seller enrichment signals and personalized onboarding paths

Seller Application Volume & Approval Rate

Track weekly new seller applications and approval rate to measure funnel health and fraud system effectiveness.

GMV from New Sellers

Gross merchandise value generated by cohorts of newly onboarded sellers within first 30/60/90 days.

Seller Retention (30/60/90 day)

Percentage of activated sellers who list or transact within retention windows; direct signal of onboarding quality.

Fraud Detection Precision & Recall

True positive rate of fraud systems and false positive rate to balance trust with seller experience friction.

A/B Test Velocity & Statistical Power

Number of concurrent tests running and speed to statistical significance for onboarding/incentive variants.
