The Challenge

Nike is hunting for a Basketball Brand Director who lives and breathes NYC hoops culture. You'll own basketball brand strategy for the world's biggest sports brand from ground zero-the city that defines the game-reporting directly to the Senior Director and shaping Nike Basketball's global narrative from the streets up.

Your Mission

First 3 Months
1

Map the NYC basketball ecosystem: identify key grassroots programs, leagues, community organizations, and athlete influencers; build relationships across all tiers

Audit current Nike basketball activations in NYC; identify gaps between brand strategy and street-level relevance; present recommendations to leadership

Launch one Q1 seasonal activation that connects Nike basketball to NYC consumer zeitgeist; measure reach, engagement, and brand sentiment lift

Establish cross-functional rhythm: align with NA Men's Brand Management, Geo & City Brand, and functional marketing partners on priorities and cadence

By 6 Months
1

Deliver a comprehensive 12-month NYC Basketball brand strategy that ties grassroots community activation to global brand narrative; approved by senior leadership

Execute 2-3 major seasonal campaigns that drive measurable business growth (revenue, market share, or customer acquisition) and cultural relevance in NYC

Build and onboard your direct team (size TBD); establish team rituals, KPI dashboards, and accountability structures for campaign performance

Generate quarterly consumer insights reports from NYC that inform NA and Global teams; establish you as the authoritative voice on NYC basketball culture at Nike

Earned Media Value

Dollar value of unpaid media (social, press, influencer) generated from NYC basketball campaigns and activations.

Team Velocity

On-time delivery rate of seasonal activations and campaign briefs; cross-functional collaboration effectiveness scores.

  • You have 8+ years of brand marketing experience with at least 3 years leading a team or major brand function
  • You're obsessed with basketball culture and have deep relationships across NYC grassroots, leagues, and communities
  • You've successfully orchestrated multi-channel seasonal campaigns from strategy through execution with measurable ROI
  • You thrive in matrixed organizations, collaborating across geographies and functions while owning a clear mandate
  • You understand how to translate street-level culture and community insights into global brand narratives
