The Challenge
Republic Services needs someone to own their entire email marketing and marketing automation strategy using Salesforce Marketing Cloud/Pardot. You'll build customer journeys that drive acquisition, retention, and experience-reporting directly to leadership with real autonomy over a critical channel.
Your Mission
Audit current email program performance (open rates, CTR, deliverability, compliance) and document gaps vs. industry benchmarks
Establish baseline metrics and KPI dashboard across all email campaigns and marketing automation workflows
Map and document all customer journey touchpoints; identify quick wins for segmentation and personalization improvements
Build relationships with cross-functional stakeholders (sales, product, customer success) and establish communication cadence
Launch 3+ optimized customer journey campaigns showing measurable lift in engagement or conversion vs. baseline
Improve email deliverability score to 98%+ and establish documented compliance framework for anti-spam and list hygiene
Execute A/B testing roadmap covering subject lines, send times, content, and CTAs; document learnings and scale winners
Develop and present business case for marketing automation platform upgrade or optimization; manage vendor relationships

Target 25-35% baseline; track lift from segmentation and personalization efforts.
Click-Through Rate (CTR)
Measure engagement quality; benchmark against industry standards (2-5% typical) and optimize creative/CTA.
Conversion Rate by Journey
Track revenue or qualified lead attribution from email campaigns end-to-end.
Email Deliverability Rate
Maintain 98%+ inbox placement; monitor bounces, complaints, and spam folder rates.
List Growth & Churn
Track new subscriber acquisition, unsubscribe rates, and list quality over time.
Marketing Automation Workflow Adoption
Percentage of prospect/customer base engaged in automated nurture journeys.

- You're purely strategic and uncomfortable with hands-on campaign execution, A/B testing, and technical troubleshooting
- You lack proven experience with enterprise marketing automation platforms (Salesforce, Marketo, Pardot); you're comfortable with generic email tools only
- You need 100% remote work; this role requires 4 days/week on-site in Phoenix
- You're uncomfortable managing external vendors or pushing back on stakeholder requests with data-driven recommendations
